Clearing Windows Temporary Files

Should issues arise such as application slow response time, icons missing from taskbar, printing issues, or issues when previewing reports, the problem could lie with too many temporary files on the hard drive and/or computer has not been rebooted in a long period of time. 

 

Clear Temporary Files

1.     Click on Start or Windows icon on taskbar

2.     Type %temp% in search box

3.     Press Enter

 

 


 

a.      Click in right panel of Temp folder window

b.     Press Ctrl + A to select all files

c.      Select Delete from top panel menu or press Delete/Del key on keyboard

 

 



                                                    i.     If message received a folder or file is in use, select Skip to bypass the folder/file

 

 


 

                                                  ii.     If message received administrator permission required to delete folder, select Continue

 

 

 


 

4.     Select OS (C:) from left panel menu

5.     Double-click on Windows folder in right panel window

 





 

a.      Double-click on Temp folder to open

b.     Press Ctrl + A to select all files

c.      Select Delete from top panel menu or press Delete/Del key on keyboard

 


 

 

                                                    i.     If message received a folder or file is in use, select Skip to bypass the folder/file

 

 



 

                                                  ii.     If message received administrator permission required to delete folder, select Continue

 

 



6.     Close File Explorer window


Reboot Computer

1.     Click on Start or Windows icon on taskbar

2.     Click on power button icon

3.     Select Restart
